Cuauhtemoc to Divisadero - Page 2

As the train approaches Cuauhtemoc, one begins to realize the fun is just beginning.

Brian Carn is a teacher in Rhode Island and spends his summer vacations back-packing through Mexico.  He has a keen interest in the string of old Missions left behind by the Jesuits.  He got off the train about noon to hike to one of them.  He was a great help "guarding the window" you see here, one we shared back and forth all morning taking pictures.  He had a lot to offer anyone interested in Mexico.  I was impressed by his willingness to get off the beaten path, see things on his own, and make up his own mind about the cultures and peoples he encountered.  I suspect we will stay in touch.  (I'd like to publish some of your photos, also, Brian)

A modern Mexican city, Cuauhtemoc is really the entrance to the Sierra Madres and the last city of any size you will find until you get to the end of the line at Los Mochis.

The second class train did not have a "dining car", per se, but I found this food car to be more than adequate.  Hot coffee, cokes, and microwave sandwiches and soups were available.  The smiling young man is Yokio Carlós Pérez, who spoke more than a little English and was very pleasant.  The girl with the beautiful smile was one of the passengers on the train.
