Expenses
Based on the January 2, 2004 exchange rate of 11.095 pesos to the dollar, here is an itemized listing of my expenses No doubt, very few of you would want to stay in hotels which have no hot water or heaters, but for those of you who are willing to rough it, the train ride itself can be made very inexpensively. Please note there are no side trips into the canyons included in these figures. I would think that for $750-$1,000 per person you could enjoy the adventure and stay in 1st class accomodations all the way, plus journey into the canyons.
My trip was in December, so I made no reservations for anything in advance, something you cannot get away with during the busy months. Be sure to see the Copper Cannon tourist services page for contact information for many of the well-established companies offering vacation packages and canyon tours.
I travelled on the cheap to prove it can be done, but there are all kinds of options. Just enter "Copper Canyon" in Google or Yahoo, and you will have a dozen or more choices as to how to travel in luxury every step of the way.
