Creel, Mexico

Many people get off the train at Creel to spend a day or two.  There are more facilities in Creel than any of the other stops in the canyon region.  Its altitude is 7,200 feet.  You can find tours of numerous Indian villages, lots of native crafts, a pristine 100 acre lake just a few miles out of town, a nearby field of mushroom shaped rocks, and guides to take you to Batopilas at the bottom of the Batopilas Canyon.  There is a small waterfall nearby.  Creel has several nice hotels and good restaurants.
