Stay in Los Mochis, Mexico
The train arrived in Los Mochis shortly before 2 a.m.
Oscar and Chris Newton and I decided to share a taxi to
this establishment, the Hotel Catalina, which was recommended
by the taxi driver. To my great surprise, we even
had time to have a couple of beers in the bar next door
to the hotel, which stayed open until 2:30. I wasn't to
see them again on this trip but hope to at some point in
the future.
My accomodations at the Hotel Catilina cost only about $20 a night. They were certainly not the finest, but, then, I wanted to make the trip on $400. The room was more than adequate, if a bit cold, since the hotel had no heaters. The bed had a thick blanket, however, and I slept comfortably.
So comfortably, I was rather disappointed the next morning (afternoon) that I had slept right past the 1 p.m. check-out time. (I had wondered why that man was hollering at my door about 12:30.) There was really no choice but to stay there another night. The plan had been to shop around that afternoon for another hotel for my second night in Los Mochis. When I got ready to shower, it raised my eyebrows a bit to learn that the hotel had no hot water either, but, even this development I accepted in good cheer.
